Little did he know that the small business he began in 1906 would grow into the world's grandest nut company.
Planters ad, 1949 | Obici, along with his friend and business partner Mario Peruzzi, founded Planters Peanut Company in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., in 1906. Seven years later, Obici built his first processing plant in Suffolk, Virginia. Mr. Peanut didn't come along until 1916, when a schoolboy named Antonio Gentile submitted his sketch to win a Planters contest for a brand icon. A commercial artist later added a top hat, monocle, and cane. The company's first ad, appearing in the Saturday Evening Post in 1918, was also the first for a salted nut. The hugely popular dry-roasted version of Planters peanuts made its debut in 1962. Later introductions have included unsalted and roasted peanuts, Planters Trail Mix, Honey-Roasted Peanuts and Cashew Mix, and more recently, NUTrition. For more than 100 years, Planters has built a reputation and a powerful brand by offering superior quality and product innovation. Planters is a member of the Kraft family of brands. About Kraft Kraft has come a long way since 29-year-old James L. Kraft moved from Ontario, canada, to Chicago and started selling cheese to grocers from a horse-drawn wagon. In fact, the story dates back further, since for more than 200 years, many companies have united to make Kraft Foods what it is today. It started before the Revolution--in Dorchester, Massachusetts--when, in 1765, a local physician, Dr. James Baker, went into partnership with a young Irish chocolate-maker, John Hannon. It was America's first chocolate mill, where, in 1780, they made a blend of quality chocolate called Baker's chocolate. Baker's chocolate was the first of a long list of companies that have joined Kraft Foods, Inc., in making good food for busy families. In 1988, Kraft became part of Philip Morris Companies Inc., and a year later Philip Morris Companies combined Kraft and General Foods Corp. to form Kraft General Foods, the largest food company in the U.S. Some of the most popular and well-known brands in the Kraft family include Maxwell House, Yuban, Oscar Mayer, Breakstone, Grape-Nuts, Jell-O, Post, Minute Rice, Cheez Whiz, Cracker Barrell, Tang, Cool Whip, Shake 'N Bake, Stove Top, General Foods International Coffees, and many, many more. | | | Features: | |

Very Good CashewsNov 11, 2009 I ordered these awhile ago like under a year ago but allmost a year ago. and when they came to me by ups i was suppose to get 12 of them in the box it came in i only got 7. And i called amazon on this and they were very nice to me and gave me a refund. And i got to keep all 7 bags of the cashews and they were very good. I'd prolly get them again but this time i hope id get 12 this time lol.

Great deal!Nov 16, 2008 These are great! The bag is a large size and a great deal from amazon. The cashews are top notch and taste fresh without too much salt.

Take some to workOct 22, 2008 These are good to take to work; yes some salt and oil (not too much) but helps resist the urge for donuts or snickers. The size is just right so that you don't feel like you're eating like a midget.

Hits the spotNov 20, 2007 Yes, they are a bit oily and salty -- but it satisfies that desire for greasy/salty edibles!
What's good is the quantity -- very satisfying as a single portion (instead of the package suggestion of 3) -- but keeps me and mine from eating half a can.

So, So QualityJul 02, 2006 The nuts are a bit oily, and they are, to a great extent, nut fragments. Can't beat cashews, but these are adequate, not great.
